IPL Retention List 2024: Retained and Released Players

IPL 2025 is creating headlines as the IPL retention list 2024 is now finalized and all franchises now have their retained players and the remaining amount in the purse.

The last date for finalizing the IPL retention list 2024 was October 31, 2024, and now-released players and new players will undergo hammer on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to the Indian Premier League, a total amount of 585.5 crore is spent on retaining 46 players by 10 franchises.

Teams were given the purse value of 120 crores to build their 25-player squad with only 6 players allowed to retain (Right to Match/Retentions).

A total of 1574 players registered for the IPL 2025, out of which 1165 are Indian and 409 are Overseas players.

IPL Retention List 2024

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings made a great move by utilizing the uncapped player rule with MS Dhoni for just 4 crores. They spent 65 crores in retaining 5 players while saving 55 crores for the auction table at Jeddah.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians made a great move by managing all their key players in the retentions. Hardik Pandya is expected to take charge of the team. Mumbai Core looks stronger as compared to other franchises. MI saved 45 crore for the auction table while spending 75 crore on retention.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The champion team of 2024 released their costliest player, Mitchell Starc, and did six retentions as a core team. They spent 69 crores in retention while saving 51 crores for the auction table.

Kolkata management shocked everyone by releasing their key players, including skipper Shreyas Iyer and Phil Salt, who had an important contribution in winning the title last season.

Sunriser Hyderabad

Sunriser Hyderabad is the strongest team on paper according to the past-season performance of the player retained. SRH spent 75 crore in retaining 5 players while saving 45 crore for the auction table.

Royal Challenger Bengaluru

Royal Challenger Bengaluru also plans to enter the auction table as they released their skipper Faf du Plessis while retaining only 3 players. RCB spent 37 crores while saving 83 crores for the auction table.

Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals also surprised the fans by releasing skipper Rishab Pant to the auction table. Delhi only performed 4 retentions for 43.75 crores while saving 76.25 crores for the auction at Jeddah.

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans also did 5 retentions for 51 crores. Titans will enter the auction battle with 69 crores in the purse to fulfill the other 20 slots.

Lucknow Supergiants

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka was in the headlines for making bold statements regarding the release of their skipper KL Rahul for IPL 2025. LSG retained five players with a huge investment of 21 crore for Nicholas Pooran.

LSG spent a total of 51 crores for 5 players and has 69 crores for the auction table to fill the slots of 20 players.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings made a shocking retention for the Ipl 2025 as they left star All-rounder Sam Curran in the auction.

Punjab will enter the auction table with the highest purse among all the franchises, with 112 crore in the purse.
