You will experience a full moon day, but not a lunar eclipse or Chandra Grahan on December 15, 2024.
Chandra Grahan (lunar eclipse) is experienced for a short duration only when the earth is in between the moon and the sun, causing an earth shadow on the moon’s surface.
There are 12 full moon days in a calendar year, and Chandra Grahan doesn’t occur every full moon day because it’s a natural phenomenon and will happen accordingly.
However, it’s not possible to experience Chandra Grahan on December 15, as already 2 Chandra Grahans was experienced in 2025.
The last Chandra Grahan experienced was on 18 September, and on 25 March, the first lunar eclipse of 2024 was experienced.

What’s special about December 15?
December 15, a full moon day, is considered a day for fasting in the ancient Hindu culture devoted to the Lord Vishnu.
While in Nepal this year, December 15 is celebrated as the Udhauli Parva, and there was a nationwide public holiday on the occasion of Udhauli Parva.
Udhauli Parva is an annual festival celebrated in the Kirati community, especially in Nepal, India, and many countries where native people reside.

This festival is celebrated on remarks of migration towards the low-elevation region, i.e., the Terai region, from the high-altitude region to escape the extreme coldness in the higher altitude.
This festival is also a way of giving thanks to the soil and nature for a good harvest by worshipping them.
Kirati People in the eastern region of Nepal celebrate this festival through a traditional dance called the ‘Sakela Dance’ by dancing to the instrumental music beats of Dhol & Jhyampta.
